The Scouting Report
On Valentine’s Day weekend, the Thunder will face a stiff test when the first-place Colorado Eagles swoop into Stockton for a three-game series at Stockton Arena. That weekend, the Thunder will once again turn to forward Jack MacLellan, who leads the team in both goals and points. Fans, meanwhile, can enjoy special promotions, including Space Night on February 13. An on-ice presentation before the game that evening will set an interstellar mood, and interactive exhibits around the concourse will educate fans and expose any aliens disguised as referees. Then, on Valentine’s Day, the first 2,000 fans can collect oversize posters.
Since skating into existence in 2005, the Stockton Thunder have become synonymous with one thing: a passionate fan base. Every season, Thunder fans show up in droves at Stockton Arena to cheer and throw their hats onto the ice whenever a player gives the cold ears signal. In fact, the Thunder once led the ECHL in attendance for an unprecedented four straight seasons. Such unyielding support has certainly translated into on-ice success, as evidenced by the Thunder’s seemingly annual trip to the playoffs. In 2012–13, it all came together during a season that saw the Thunder capture their first Western Conference title and advance to the Kelly Cup finals.
