The Boatman

  • The plot: A boatman begins to question his job of guiding newcomers to the land of the dead. When he meets a young woman who refuses to cross over, he is thrown into a tailspin of uncertainty.
  • The theme: Through the characters that inhabit the boatman’s underworld—including a dysfunctional three-headed dog, Time, and Water—the dark comedy explores the nature of life and death, mortality, happiness, and despair.
  • The Flint Repertory Theatre: An original play written by Alex Moggridge and directed by Michael Lluberes, The Boatman was developed at Flint Repertory Theatre’s “New Works Festival,” which seeks to promote original theatre work in Flint, Michigan.
