The Scouting Report
As summer fades into autumn, Farish Field at the Houston Polo Club quakes under crashing hooves as polo matches unfold across the historic grounds. On September 7, the track celebrates a fresh season with the annual Fall Classic. Less than a month later, competitors clash for the Houston Cup on October 5, and on November 9, the season gallops to a close with the USPA US Open Women’s Championship. Matches typically last between an hour or 2, and crowds can step away from the action to refuel with eats from the Red Oak Grill, which serves food and drinks from Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. Fans can also stop by the Houston Polo Club Tack Shoppe to pick up polo souvenirs to remember their visit and maybe get an autograph from their favorite horse.
Houston Polo Club
Located on 26 sprawling acres just a short distance from downtown, The Houston Polo Club has been treating humans and hooves to gripping polo matches played on lush terrain since 1928. During the season, weekly scheduled matches take place on Sundays. Spectators get to watch these equine bouts from the Red Oak Lawn, where they can also brush up on their polo lingo as they witness every exciting goal, bump, and hook.
