Basketball was invented in the 1800s as an activity for people who didn’t want to play volleyball but did want to bat around something about the size of a human head. Have old-fashioned fun with this Groupon.

Open to grades 1–8, these camps take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday–Friday. Each day, coaches provide supervision and instruction as campers participate in a variety of exercises, including warm-ups, stretches, and scrimmage games. At the camp’s skill stations, kids practice rebounding, ball handling, passing, defense, and speed and agility.
Squeaking sneakers, swishing nets, and bouncing balls serve as the soundtrack at Hooperstown, a 20,000-square foot, air-conditioned basketball facility. Both of the two regulation-size courts here feature floating hardwood maple flooring, a thick, sturdy material that is easy on the knees and stable enough for anyone trying to dunk using a pogo stick. There’s constant competition on the courts—Hooperstown hosts leagues, clinics, and camps, including seasonal sessions for kids on break from school.
