The MUZEO museum spreads out over 25,000 square feet, engaging visitors with eclectic, world-class traveling exhibits and celebrating the holidays with a Victorian fair. The MUZEO’s current exhibitions include The Queen’s Gallery, on display through January 8, 2012, which showcases more than 60 paintings by Victorian artists, including Royal Academy of Arts members and James Sant, Queen Victoria’s portrait painter and most formidable Scrabble opponent. At Steampunk: History Beyond Imagination, on display through February 12, 2012, onlookers peruse artifacts from Victorian writers and later scientists, from H.G. Wells and Jules Verne to Nikola Tesla and Albert Einstein. In addition to film props, set pieces, and rare books, the exhibit showcases art, clothing, and steampunk sculptures from modern artists.
On December 10, the Victorian Holiday Fair entertains revelers with festivities that include English country dancing and miniature reenactments of Victorian wars over who could fit the most watermelons under their tea gown. Guests munch on popcorn and nuts and sip cider while ambling by booths displaying one-of-a-kind creations on sale from local artists. Ears devour the voices of carolers or gorge themselves on a reading of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol.
MUZEO Museum and Cultural Center
Every year, MUZEO Museum and Cultural Center's curators bring an eclectic collection of traveling exhibits to Orange County that otherwise might not stop in the region. The unifying theme behind exhibits tends to be a combination of interest and eccentricity; in recent years, the museum temporarily housed displays on calligraphy, black-leather jackets, and masterpieces by Goya, Picasso, and Dalí. Every show enjoys the advantages of the museum's architectural beauty, which combines a series of outdoor courtyards and waterscapes with its galleries. The building also houses the Anaheim Heritage Center, which contains almost one million curiosities and items pertaining to the city, from its early Native American roots to Disneyland.
