Oshun is named after the Yoruba goddess of water, and rightly so. Despite being firmly located on solid ground, a water theme permeates the upscale restaurant, beginning with its decor. Just look behind the bar, where mermaids, complete with flowing hair and turquoise fins, adorn the backsplash. The motif is also evident in the cuisine too and also evident throughout chef and owner James Guarino’s oyster bar and menu of fresh, sustainably sourced seafood.
Diners can order a whole fish. The whole, roasted rainbow trout is accompanied by a grilled-peach salad and, if you finish the whole thing, a pot of gold.
Many dishes are served homestyle and gourmet. These include the cornmeal-fried catfish drizzled in bacon vinaigrette, along with the Jamaican jerk chicken with plantain fritters.
The cocktails are infused with creativity. The Moira, for example, is made with earl grey vodka, whereas jalapeño-infused mescal adds a kick to the Rising Sun.
