About Tibet Corner

Who would have thought the Dalai Lama would love quesadillas? It so happens that Lhakpa Dorjee did. Starting in 1996, Lhakpa—the patriarch of the family that owns Tibet Corner—would drop everything any time the Dalai Lama came to Minneapolis, becoming the spiritual leader's personal chef. In 2014, for example, Lhakpa took over the entire kitchen of the 50th floor of the Marquette Hotel to cook each of the Dalai Lama's meals during his four-day stay.

While patrons won't find quesadillas at Tibet Corner, they do find the same culinary skills and attention to detail that earned Lhakpa his standing with His Holiness. The menu includes:

  • Indian cuisine, such as biryani, tikka masala, curry, vindaloo, malai kofta, palak paneer, and bangain bartha
  • Tibetan cuisine like momo dumplings, beef shap-ta, alu sha, and sha-bhaklap
