Fittingly, Eric Biermann and Jon Messier were sipping craft beers when they decided to open their own brewery. After that conversation and a year of planning, they quit their corporate jobs to start digging trenches and installing tanks. Finally, in fall 2011, they brewed their first beer: a citrusy ale named Air, in tribute to both its lightness and Jon's previous career as an aeronautical engineer.
Since then, they've expanded their array of craft beers to include eight year-round offerings and a handful of seasonal ales, plus a few limited-edition brews. The most notable of the latter is their Brewer for the Day, or BFD, beer. The late-summer release is made by the winner of Lucid’s annual homebrewing competition. For those who don’t win the competition but still want a peek at Lucid’s operations, Eric and Jon host
tours of the brewery they built from scratch, complete with samples of their beer.
The microbrewery helped launch and produce beer for four other breweries including Badger Hill, Bad Weather, Pryes, and American Sky. Enjoy samples from 10 beers on tap, and tour of the facility.
