Choose from Three Options

  • $159 for a 30-minute introductory flight in a plane or helicopter (a $399 value)
  • $315 for a 60-minute introductory flight in a plane or helicopter (a $798 value)
  • $99 for a 60-minute session in a full-motion FAA flight simulator (a $199 value)

Students take introductory flight instruction aboard a Cirrus SR20 airplane or a Schweizer 300CBi helicopter. After 30 minutes of ground and preflight training, the FAA-certified instructor will explain procedures while steering the plane down the runway or preparing the chopper for liftoff. Once aloft and at a safe altitude, students take sole control of the aircraft for the full 30 or 60 minutes while the instructor keeps watch for safety.

Alternatively, climb into the full-motion Red Bird flight simulator's fully enclosed cockpit with more wraparound visuals to get the full experience of flying a plane while on the ground.

United Aviation Academy

The licensed, FAA-certified instructors at United Aviation Academy employ a fleet of helicopters and airplanes that serve as airborne classrooms for students enrolled in instructional programs that range from introductory flights to full commercial-pilot certifications. Since the academy does not reside at a busy airport, students never have to wait for runway clearance before taking off and enjoying the magnificent views of the Hudson Valley from on high. On the ground, the academy grants its pilot's license candidates access to instruction, conference rooms, and offices for quiet study and uninterrupted experiments with paper airplane folding. The outfit's Redbird FMX flight simulator also allows for highly realistic earthbound practice within a fully enclosed cockpit, complete with more than 200 degrees of wraparound visuals and a wealth of training scenarios.

Customer Reviews

It was a fun experience!! Will be going back....

United Aviation was excellent. The airport didn't have a lot of traffic, so I was able to spend all of my time training rather than waiting for clear airspace. My instructor was great too. As a former Chinook pilot and instructor at West Point, he knew what he was talking about, and I felt comfortable pushing my limits. By the end of my hour, I was hovering and moving the helicopter around field. Small movements only, but it felt great.
