Aria MediSpa seems to be brimming with medical specialists, be they plastic surgeons, medical aestheticians, or massage therapists. These experts meander about the facility's oasis-like setting––marked by a glossy floor and avant-garde lamps. A curved, wooden reception desk anchors the lobby, where guests check in with manager Anomi and recline on plush ivory loveseats. Elsewhere, private rooms host aesthetic treatments such as chemical and silk peels, sunless tanning, cryogenic facials, laser and eMatrix therapies, and injectables. On the other side of the spectrum, massages, sauna sessions, body scrubs, whole-body cryogenic treatments, and a salt room focus solely on relaxation.
The salt-lined room in the Bethesda Salt Cave is designed to replicate the microclimates of its ancient, underground
predecessors. Chunks of organic Himalayan rock salt—some as small as 2 ounces, some as large as 250 pounds, and all formed over millions of years—cover the floors, walls, and ceiling. The room's only notable modern differences are a calming soundtrack and the presence of zero-gravity lounge chairs, where clients recline to soak up the salt's healing
The staff heats this room to 68 degrees, creating a negative ionic charge that releases the salt's load of
minerals and beneficial trace elements into the air. This crystal-rich air is believed to clear mucus, reduce inflammation, and alleviate acne and rashes as it's inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Though the spa specializes in salt therapy, it provides other services, too. The staff lifts tension from muscles using a dozen massage modalities, from traditional Swedish to active isolated stretching and a specialized warm bamboo massage.
Massage Metta’s lead massage practitioner, Janine Narayadu, specializes in Active Isolated Stretching. Recognized by many physicians, chiropractors, and physical therapists as an effective way to improve flexibility, the AIS method stretches muscles for no longer than two seconds at a time to lengthen the muscles without triggering reciprocal muscle contractions or requiring new, longer clothes. Along with stretching techniques, Janine employs more than 15 years of international massage experience to relieve tension with the firm kneads of deep-tissue massage or the gentle strokes of Swedish massage. Massage Metta also offers craniosacral therapy and detoxification services for general health and wellness.
