Q&A with Dudley, Owner
When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?
I was always a avid traveler, looking for new and exciting adventures, but was never fully satisfied with the adventures I found. Having years of experience as a young child on many motorized vehicles, I realized that Cottage Country was the perfect place to start an off-road adventure company. With ATV trails from mild to wild with epic river crossings, I knew the adventures that [we] would offer would be more than satisfactory to all ages and all riding abilities. [We offer] one-
to four-hour and multiple day guided tours, rentals for ATVs, snowmobiles, personal watercraft and jet skis, waverunners, sea-doos, and overnight ATV camping adventures. Come on out and see why more people ride with us. It's a mud bogging, river splashin', good time for all.
What special training do you or your staff have?
Our staff is passionate about what they do. All of our guides have grown up riding [sport vehicles] and some have even raced. Our staff's goal is to show everyone the best time ever in a fun and safe atmosphere.
Have you ever been a patron of your own business? If so, what was the most enjoyable part?
The most enjoyable part is [that] each year our staff scouts out new ATV trails ... with bigger and better river crossings, mud roles, trail obstacles, and breathtaking scenery for trail rides, [as well as]
our overnight camping trips on the beautiful Canadian shield. So, every time our clients return they are always getting something new by exploring new trails.
Since 1990, the staff of Algonquin Lakeside Inn has welcomed travellers to stay on the shores of Oxtongue Lake, just down the road from the vibrant Algonquin Provincial Park. This verdant landscape is a prime destination for wildlife photographers looking for moose and deer, and in the winter, the inn's guests can go exploring with snowmobiles and cross-country skis rented from nearby outfitters. After a day of hiking in the park or paddling around the lake in complimentary canoes and kayaks, guests can sit for a dinner in the country-styled dining room, crowned by a hanging canoe and warmed by a flickering fireplace and antique-style stove. Despite its proximity to pristine wilderness, the inn doesn’t deprive guests of technological comforts: free WiFi keeps the internet handy, cell phones can find reception, and all rooms and suites receive satellite TV channels.
Algonquin's accommodations range from comfortable rooms with queen beds and TVs to spacious suites where guests can cozy up by gas fireplaces after relaxing in the two-person whirlpool tub or admiring the lakefront view from private porches. Each of the five cottages stocks a refrigerator, stove, microwave, and other supplies so that guests can cook their own meals instead of packing a suitcase full of astronaut food.

Before he founded Algonquin Park Adventure Tours in 1996, Stuart Lorne Letovsky's exploits took him all around the world. He won sumo matches and cross-country bike races. He explored Asia and the Philippines. In the end, though, nothing spoke to him more than the natural beauty of the Canadian Park. Learn more about his current business, showing off the park's terrain:
The adventures: Stuart and his team lead canoe trips, bike trips, snowshoe trips, and hikes through the park. Some are low-key—for instance, canoe tours that mix paddling with boating so participants have time to photograph foliage—while others are more intense.
The survival training: In year-round survival classes, Stuart teaches students what he learned from Nepali sherpas, Vietnamese hill tribesmen, and myriad other outdoor experts—such as how to forage for food, or how to play it off when you walk into a tree.
The home sweet home base: The company's base is also Stuart's home; he lives with his wife on the six-acre farm that sits just outside the park's western gates. Multi-day tour participants have been known to stock up on healthy provisions in the couple's organic vegetable garden.
