Classes in Oak Grove

Each of the guitar coaches at American Guitar Academy are certified in the school’s signature teaching method. Developed over 25 years, this house-honed instruction technique incorporates scientific research to help fingers learn to shred frets up to eight times faster than alternative methods. During private half-hour lessons, instructors guide budding rock stars aged 4 years and up through the basics of strumming chords and seamlessly stitching together riffs. These comprehensive lessons on classical, electric, or acoustic guitars are offered once a week with a live instructor or online and guarantee that students will be playing their favorite music within six months of training. Students may begin lessons without owning a guitar, but are encouraged to gain access to one quickly for mastering scales and the ability to solo with their teeth.

East Side and West Side Athletic Clubs offer pampering for all bodies, ages, and fitness types with facilities packed with swimming pools, racquetball courts, childcare centers, and cardio decks. Group fitness classes make use of the studio space and include high-energy Zumba or relaxing yoga, with water aerobics taking place in the indoor pool or the high-pressure showers. In addition to workout amenities, guests can take advantage of bountiful spa and relaxation services including massages, acupuncture, and a full-service hair salon. Trainer's Club's 13,000-square-foot facility provides a variety of machines and classes for visitors to magnify muscles and enhance endurance. The one-month membership includes unlimited access to group classes, such as tai chi, yoga, boot camp, and driver's education for unicycles. Flex arm candy on the free weights, work blood pumpers on the cardiovascular machines, or practice balancing or juggling skills with the exercise balls. Increase flexibility and strength by sampling the Pilates group course and personalize the fat-blasting experience with the personal-training session, led by a trainer of the client’s choice. The gym also provides a sauna, a steam room, and fully stocked locker rooms to relax and refresh in after a difficult breakup with body fat. Natural lighting, tall ceilings, and the lack of fluorescent lighting give the workout warehouse a small, community-gym atmosphere.

IM=X (Integrated Movement Xercize) fuses the muscle-toning techniques of Pilates with resistance and plyometric jumps for a more athletically geared workout. Limbs will be lengthened during two private reformer sessions, in which a certified instructor familiarizes clients with the reformer equipment, bending physiques to reach their individual fitness goals with ample personal attention.

As they enter the training circle at Curves, female guests come face-to-face with the smiles of other women. And just as points on a circle share a common distance from the circle's center, workout participants share the experiences of those nearby by trading stations throughout the 30-minute training session. One minute is spent on a piece of strength-training equipment built for feminine frames and designed to work two opposing muscle groups with a single movement. Exercisers then move on to a recovery station, where they run, jog, or dance to maintain heart rates and keep platforms in place during momentary losses of gravity.
