Maria T. Cummins was already an established chef when she moved to Miami and began teaching an after-school cooking program for children. Struck by how little her students knew about nutrition, she founded The Real Food Academy—formerly Cooking With Kids Miami—to instill healthy eating habits in her young apprentices. Here, she and her fellow skilled instructors lead classes and activities based around one simple philosophy: "we don't change the dish, we change the ingredients." During group sessions, birthday parties, and camps, Chef Maria and her team teach youngsters how to choose and prepare more nutritious, "real" foods, ensuring they avoid meals that are high in preservatives, chemicals, and plastic grapes. Non-edible offerings, such as spa days and kid-centric Zumba classes, promote healthy lifestyles.
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
I was teaching guitar for 20 years,and I'm myself a professional guitar player. As a musician I played in severals productions,one of them was gold disc in south america,and other was Grammy nominated.

The students need to provide a guitar.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
I love music and I really like to teach. To theach became a big part of my life for more than 20 years.

Drummer Paradise's instructors would never reduce their art to mere banging. Bass player, composer, and educator Agustin Conti boasts more than two decades of professional performing and recording experience in the United States, Europe, and South America. In 2005, he settled in South Florida, where he opened his own private teaching studio a year later. When he’s not leading classes at Miami Dade College, Conti schools students during in-person and virtual lessons for the four-, five-, and six-string electric bass; the upright bass; and the wall-mounted animatronic largemouth bass. The bilingual instructor uses a variety of teaching styles, such as letting students learn by ear or by reading the music.
Though their end products are as convenient—if not more—as commonplace frozen dinners, the chefs at Bring Organics Back render convenience healthy by freshly preparing each meal with nutrient-packed, natural ingredients. To keep sodium and sugar levels low, they make every element of the meal from scratch, even sauces and crinoline toothpicks. They design dishes around in-season fruits and vegetables, yielding both high-variety and high-flavor dishes such as pineapple jerk tilapia and a steak and vegetable quesadilla. Once the day’s lunches and dinners are fully cooked, the team packages them into single portions and delivers them to workplaces and homes.
We spoke with Jack Macaluso—Regional Social Media and Web Coordinator at Beauty Schools of America—about how the academies prepare students for careers in the real world and why it's important for the schools to give back to their communities.
On the schools' mission
Above all else, Jack says that the schools "try to focus and harness the students' creativity," while giving them all of the experience and practical skills they need not simply to be prepared to enter the work force, but to succeed and thrive. The relatively lengthy training programs ensure that aspiring stylists, cosmetologists, makeup artists, barbers, and massage therapists fully understand the intricacies of their chosen specialty, as well as what they need to do to continue advancing their future career according to Jack.
On the role of the instructors
With a roster of instructors that includes industry professionals with international spa and salon experience, Beauty Schools of America strives to give attendees a broad view of the numerous options open to them. Jack is also clear that the teachers' guidance isn't limited to classroom environments. When the advanced-level students are allowed hone their talents by performing treatments for actual clients, "an instructor or two will always be there to assist and answer questions," he says.
On the products that the students use during treatments
Students use brand name products like Moroccanoil, Sojourn, Nioxin, and others. Working alongside their instructors at modern service stations, these stylists use these products to craft en vogue cuts, color, styling and therapeutic practices.
On the schools' charitable involvement
Beauty Schools of America embraces opportunities to give back to its communities while providing real-world experience for students at the same time. Jack goes on to describe events where the schools' aspiring barbers and cosmetologists performed complimentary services for underprivileged residents, and he mentions one specific occasion when massage students provided free treatments for community members who participated in a bike ride dedicated to raising awareness about multiple sclerosis.
