Q&A with Michael, General Manager
When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?
Jim Abernethy has been diving and teaching in Palm Beach County since 1981, he established Jim Abernethy's Scuba Adventures so he could share his love and passion for the ocean with others and introduce more people to the world underwater.
As the old adage says, "Stuff happens." What training do you and your staff have to stay ahead of the unexpected?
All vessels are USCG Inspected and carry the latest in first aid, emergency oxygen and AEDs. All staff is required to be dive professionals and current with their SCUBA training agency. We routinely perform safety and emergency exercises to ensure client safety.
What is the one feature of your business that you're most proud of?
Superior client service
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
We contribute actively to the community we are in by providing food for homeless people, and discounted services to veterans, fire, police, and emergency personnel. We also contribute actively to several non profits and marine sanctuaries.
Pristine beaches, a seemingly endless supply of sunshine, swordfish, dolphins, manatees—like a slideshow of a tropical vacation, Palm Beach has all of these. Yet without the proper guidance, many sights go unseen and many memories go unmade. So Visit Palm Beach acts as the treasure map to the area’s bounty, imploring its customers to take to the sea in search of the damper half of local entertainment. Adventurers can traverse the ocean on waverunners, parasail 800 feet above the cerulean-blue water, or kayak around Peanut Island in search of its elephant mayor. Visit Palm Beach also acts as a hub for catamaran charters and snorkeling excursions so that guests can explore the deep blue for rarely seen marine species.
From the New Riviera Beach Marina, Blue Water Powerboat Rentals looks out on three prime boating destinations: Peanut Island, Palm Beach Island and Singer Island. The rental shop also nestles near Lake Worth Inlet, a Gulf Stream-proximate locale ideal for fishing and drift diving.
Renters can jet towards these sites, or simply explore the intracoastal waterways, in whatever vehicle they deem the chosen one from the company’s fleet of Yamaha Waverunners, power boats, and pontoon boats. For those apprehensive about taking the wheel, the shop’s captains can show the areas most idyllic above-water sights on boating tours.
