In addition to the sense of perseverance and accomplishment that comes with finishing a 5K, the organizers of the Bacon Chase have added another incentive: bacon. During their two races?the 5K Piggy Pilgrimage, which is a traditional 5K, and the 0.05K Blitz to Bacon, which is a 164-foot sprint?runners can munch on unlimited bacon bits before feasting on unlimited amounts of bacon at the finish line. Runners 21 and older can wash down the savory strips of bacon with a bloody mary, and all runners get a Bacon Chase T-shirt and a signature bacon-scented bib. The festival opens at 8 a.m. and features many bacon-themed activities, plus music. The festive day serves a greater purpose, too. Attendees will be able to register to become a St. Jude Hero, raise money for St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital, or both.

  • Color Me Rad
The Spokane County Raceway Super Oval hosts the thundering stock-car excitement of competing racers zooming around a half-mile, high-banked asphalt raceway, similar in size and shape to Bristol Motor Speedway. Witness more than 35 Super Late Model cars fight for inches in a high-performance, short-track nitro-opera. No assigned seating means early birds can sit close enough to hear the drivers exchange esoteric Shakespearean barbs. After the winner is crowned and the losers? vehicles tarred and feathered, fans can visit the pits to meet their favorite drivers and request autographs. Concessions areas sell classic sporting-event fare, such as hot dogs and nachos, as well as beer and wine.

  • Bellevue Downtown Association
The Bellevue Magic Season Ice Arena presented by Bank of America and Alaska Airlines Visa Signature card captures a little holiday magic beneath it's peaked pavilion roof. Garland, wreaths, and ribbon hang from above, while the open fourth wall leaves the arena open to sunlight, fresh air, and marauding caribou. The rink stays open come rain or shine, with staff members always ready to welcome visitors and supply them with rented skates. They also provide an ongoing holiday soundtrack, with music from STAR 101.5. Should skaters feel the need to refuel, a concession stand provides hot beverages, cups of noodles, and bagels and cream cheese in exchange for cash only, or concrete proof that yetis exist.

  • The Bubble Run
Like a city street after every nearby car wash has malfunctioned, The Bubble Run welcomes participants to play in light, glistening foam. Runners, walkers, jumpers, and skippers cruise their way through five easygoing, untimed kilometers, each marked with a 6-foot-deep bog brimming with colorful foam and floating bubbles. Bubbleteers armed with foam-slinging cannons ensure that each adventurer receives a healthy dose of bubbles as they pass, running safely thanks to the dry makeup of the foam solution used. Racers clad in white may start clean as a whistle, but by the time they cross the finish line, they’re dyed like a rainbow, finally readying them to sneak up on a leprechaun. Then the fun keeps going—live DJs and bubble cannons amp up afterparties to celebrate runners' efforts. Proceeds from each race benefit local charities.
