In a Nutshell

Rotating crop of comics coaxes laughs with dry wit, wacky improve, or silly satire as guests munch on pub fare at private, candlelit tables

The Fine Print

Comedy has long been used to subvert the established order, shedding light on modern life's pervasive absurdities and fomenting distrust of potentially seltzer-filled boutonnieres. Discover some rollicking truths with this GrouponLive deal for a comedy show at Headliners Comedy Club at The Gold Room. For $15, you get four general-admission tickets (a $60 value). Shows are every Friday at 8:30 p.m.

Kicking off its ninth season, the intimate Gold Room dresses private tables with tablecloths as well as candlelight, which illuminates each giggle and grin drawn by the quips of regularly performing comedians. During two-hour shows, three standup laugh masters take the stage in turn. Tom Hayes (October 5 and November 9) doles out material honed during 27 years as a medical-supply salesman, including a classic routine entitled The Imposter. Karen Morgan (November 2) charms audiences with her Georgia drawl as she plumbs the disparate experiences between her former career as a trial attorney and her tenure as a full-time mom.

Though not included with this Groupon, guests can order stage-side dinner. Spinach-and-artichoke dip teams up with nachos and chicken wings spiced with hot, mild, barbecue, thai, or teriyaki sauce to fuel belly laughs and distract mouths so they don't shout out premature punch lines.

The Groupon Guide to: Baby Proofing Your Home

For some parents, keeping a new baby safe is their highest priority—even above their own comfort. What are some ways to make your home safe for the new baby?

• Block exposed electrical outlets with a glob of nontoxic baby wax.
• Replace curious, slobbering pets with more cuddly stuffed animal versions.
• File down the sharp corners on any table or, better yet, throw your furniture out and eat everything standing over the sink.
• Stop swearing! Babies can sense when you express your emotions in order to feel better—instead, keep it bottled up throughout their childhood.
• Keep your newly safe house clean and organized by never bringing an unpredictable baby into it.

How can you keep your house safe for and from a baby?
