What You'll Do
A blank page brims with potential, ready to host a flowery poem, elaborate sketch, or game of hangman. That potential multiplies as artist and instructor Katie Netti helps you hand-make your own personalized journal full of unmarked pages. While you work with exotic papers, ribbons, and other materials, you'll learn the technical process of traditional bookbinding, before heading home with a hardcover journal or sketchbook that you assembled yourself.
Bind Your Own Book with Provided Materials
Choose from a supply of exotic papers, ribbons, and findings, bind your materials between two hard 6"x9" covers, and use a tie, button, or leather strip to keep your book closed
Learn Traditional Techniques and Shortcuts
Practice using wooden ribs to make tight creases, punching holes with an awl, and sewing with waxed threads
Personalize Your Volume
If desired, bring along photographs or mementos to incorporate in your journal or sketchbook design
Owner of UrbanOil Ceramics, Art Teacher
Through her own inventiveness and determination, Katie Netti found a way to combine two of her passions—making art and helping others unlock their own creative potential. When she isn't sharing her knowledge as a high school art teacher, she stays busy with gallery showings each year. It's not only her artwork that's earned accolades: School Arts magazine featured one of her lesson plans in a 2006 issue.
