Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard
Based on the 1950 Billy Wilder film noir, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony-winning adaptation of Sunset Boulevard weaves a dark tale of volatile passion and faded celebrity. Aging star Norma Desmond fell from Hollywood's favor with the advent of the “talkies,” but she wants back in the spotlight—and screenwriter Joe Gillis might be the ticket. Gillis leads the audience through the story, narrating the plot in song through flashbacks, asides, and intensive PowerPoint presentations, as the two begin a strange affair. Illuminated by the flashbulbs of Tinseltown's golden age, the plot wends its way through a love triangle to a tragic finale.
