Knitting can be a helpful hobby in the winter when you need a scarf for extra warmth or a sturdy needle to chip your way out of a frozen cabin. Prepare for chilly months with this Groupon.
$45 for Three Knitting or Crocheting Classes ($90 Value)
Over three weeks, students taking the Learn to Knit or Learn to Crochet series internalize the basics of knitting or crocheting while making a simple washcloth. In week two, knitters move on to knitting in the round while decreasing and increasing stitch counts, and crocheters learn a bevy of new stitches. During the final class, students work on a sampler scarf made from an original pattern and hand-dyed yarn. All supplies are included. See the class schedule.
Inside one of the oldest commercial buildings in Oregon, three female generations of the Bell and Foster family instruct clients in the knitting, spinning, and crocheting practice that they’ve mastered and helped pass down through the generations. Wynona Studios proprietors Linda, JJ, and Emma are committed to preserving these arts, and use only locally made or recycled yarn to supply clients with quality fibers and an authentic crafting experience. The shop’s colorful skeins create a funky, homey vibe inside the brick-walled shop, with yarns displayed beside swatches of vintage fabrics, large jars of antique buttons, and even larger jars of antique button salesmen.
Behind the retail section, crafting classes make use of the shop’s spinning wheels, drum carders, sewing machines, and reference library. Students partaking in a monthly membership can pop in anytime to use the equipment, though anyone can take a class to get specialized instruction in knitting projects or deconstructing a sweater for its yarn and embedded cozy feelings.
