At a Vibe Class USA personal-training session, exercisers aren't alone in their workouts. As they move through functional exercises with resistance bands or weights, they're stationed atop a vibrating platform. The vibration causes contractions of the muscles, which boosts the normal effects of strength training and conditioning. In a mere 30 minutes, customers can reap the results of a lengthier workout.

A conflation of Bombay (the old name for Mumbai) and Hollywood, Bollywood refers to the Mumbai-based film industry, which draws up the tradition of golden-age musicals, using song and dance as a way for characters to express their emotions. The dance style that has emerged from these films blends traditional and folk dance moves with beats and movements inspired by modern R&B and hip-hop. The ladies of Bollywood Shake showcase dance routines step by step, strengthening their student's sense of timing, spacing, and how to twirl without bodychecking their dance partner. Students twist and turn inside an expansive studio with lightly stained hardwood floors and decorated with gentle colors of orange and dark yellow. Instructors also offer Bollywood Workout classes, which use sped-up dance routines to tighten and tone the body.

The Amala Foundation aims to inspire youth to become peaceful and compassionate leaders through local, national, and international humanitarian service projects. Many of these projects are directed at helping to connect underserved youth, including refugee and immigrant children, with opportunities to take leadership roles and serve others. Youth participants have often experienced religious persecution, child labor, extreme poverty, gang violence, or war, and Amala's projects are aimed at helping them to achieve inner peace as well as peace within the communities where they work. Programs include the One Village Project and the Global Youth Peace Summit, which unite youth from around the globe to help them heal and connect with others. Over the last decade, the Amala Foundation has directly impacted the lives of thousands of young people in Austin and around the world.

Surrounded by the works of classes past, pupils at Easely Amused create their own pieces of art under the tutelage of experienced instructors. Provided brushes whisper against canvas while students follow their teacher to create a painting that matches the evening’s template. Like driving directions from a poet, the works often include seasonal scenes, abstract swirls of color, and bright flowers. Painters bring their own beverages to enjoy during classes, the clicking glasses of wine and beer helping provide inspiration for art.

From the elegant and elephant-arted confines of their new Southaven restaurant, Bangkok Alley’s Thara and Dottie Burana keep the fresh fish swimming into their lunch and dinner dishes, where they morph into schools of sushi and Thai concoctions both creative and traditional. Starters such as the shrimp hompa—which envelops its shrimp with golden-fried panko and sweet-and-sour sauce ($6)—irrigate parched mouth-deserts to create an inviting climate for the seafood keow han, a mélange of shrimp, scallops, and the fish of the day served in green curry with basil sauce ($20). Otherwise, silence the howls of were-stomachs with heartier fare such as a grilled strip steak and panang sauce served with grilled asparagus and squash ($20), or a panang curry underscored with a coconut base and garnished with chopped Kaffir lime leaf (up to $14 with choice of protein).
