"Because we are a small gym, we can work with our athletes one-on-one to make sure they come together as a team," explains Janelle Cissell, the business manager at Indy Fusion Cheer & Dance. This approach?one part individual instruction, one part teamwork?is a big reason why so many kids stick around the performance-arts gym for years.

Cissell and head coach Maya Paynee strive to make all of their students feel like part of the family, whether their interests skew toward jazz or hip hop. Regardless of the techniques they're working on, the instructors' primary goal is to encourage and support. They've recently relocated their gym to a new sports complex on the south side of Indianapolis, which features plenty of space to spread out as well as a rumored anti-gravity chamber.

Q&A with the Owner

When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?

My first ceramics class was my senior year in high school, and I've been doing it ever since.

Sometimes it's all about the little things in life. What supplemental courtesies do you include with your main services to leave clients with a smile on their face?

Pay as you go classes offer flexibilty with your schedule, your wallet, and the level of skill you wish to achieve.

What's one tip for first-time customers that will make them feel like regulars?

Come with ideas on what you want to make. We can't always bring your idea to fruition, but we can certainly try.

Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?

Plan to visit the other wonderful businesses in the Fountain Square area. There are fabulous places to eat, shop, and we even have a wonderful little library.
