Laura Fairman got her start in photography about eight years ago, when she began taking pictures of live bands. Although she went on to study photography and film development, she considers herself to be mostly self-taught and often follows her instincts rather than relying on textbook poses or cardboard cutouts to replace nonphotogenic subjects. As a result, she often captures images that are uniquely representative of a particular client or experience.

Though Laura operates out of a small studio space, she prefers to hold her family, couples, and children’s photography shoots outside or in a client’s home to create a more natural impression. For one of her more unusual offerings—custom fantasy shoots—she helps clients channel a favorite celebrity, pinup girl, or Halloween monster with hair, makeup, and costume styling.

Professional photographer Bella Silva Cacilhas and her all-female staff aim to unleash each subject's most sensual personality traits in 90-minute boudoir photography sessions. Clients meet for a pre-session consultation at their bedroom or at Bella Studio to determine their session's theme and preemptively choose poses. Bella employs dramatic lighting to capture flattering angels of intimate posturing, and subjects can make up to two costume changes using their own sultry wardrobe pieces and supplied accessories such as scarves, hats, and zebra-print construction helmets. Each session produces 35–50 shots for transfer to a private online gallery, while the session's best image achieves existence in real space-time as an 11"x16" print. Staff expertly check and retouch each photo for blemishes before proofing. Subjects can augment facial canvases with Face by Julie Gray makeup for an additional $20.

In the curtained-off confines of a photo booth, revelers adjust a digital screen?s controls, then mug for the camera wrapped in feather boas, eyes obscured behind sunglasses. The props and the booth come courtesy of Switek Entertainment, whose photo booths and chief disc jockey?who spins under the name DJ Switek?energize crowds at Michigan wedding receptions and parties. The company also draws on connections to other area businesses, matching hosts with party essentials, such as guests who can put their hands in the air for the entire duration of an event.

Armed with Canon Rebel DSLR cameras, FlashBox's photo booths capture crisp photographs and videos of guests at weddings and other celebrations. Partygoers mosey before each booth's 20-inch touchscreen monitor, where they can elect to immortalize smiles in technicolor, black and white, or old-fashioned sepia tone. The user-friendly system also allows subjects to swiftly flip-flop from still-photo mode to video mode and back. Throughout the festivities, an attendant stands close by to forestall mechanical confusion and arm subjects with goofy hats, outrageous novelty cufflinks, and other wacky props.

The booth is delivered for free and accompanied by an attendant to answer questions.
