    In 2010, two neighbors ? Troy Smith and Ryan Baird ? sat around sipping their favorite beverages when a startling idea occurred to them; maybe they could make better drinks. Taking inspiration from their great state's history, they founded Yellow Rose Distilling before the year was out, but took two years to perfect their recipes and navigate legal waters before opening their distillery in Houston. Their carefully crafted drinks have drawn attention; they recently took home a Best in Class Award at the American Distilling Institute for their Yellow Rose Outlaw Bourbon, and their Straight Rye Whiskey earned the Double Gold at San Francisco Artisan Spirits. They invite visitors to come tour their facilities, taste their creations, and help them come closer to upgrading the distillery with a new tasting room.

    The origins of Whitmeyer's Distilling read almost like a modern fairytale. While stationed in Germany with the US Army, Travis Whitmeyer met a girl. This girl's family lived on a small farm in the countryside, where they made beers, ciders, and schnapps out of whatever produce they had lying around. They taught Travis their trade, and when he left the Army, he brought his newfound knowledge with him, experimenting and expanding until he could make everything from peach-flavored whiskey to vodka.
