Boarding Services
Boarding is available for your pet seven days a week by appointment only.
Since this is the Anderson home and business, it assures there is always someone on site.
Dogs are cared for in an airy 8,000 square foot kennel building which is heated during the winter, cooled during the summer and disinfected on a daily basis.
Anderson Acres offers the largest runs available with indoor-outdoor access in Kern County, which are especially suited for giant breeds, multiple dog families and long term boarding. Large indoor runs for the smallest house dog and covered runs are also available. Creature comforts include hammock beds or resting platforms for all sizes of dog. Toys and blankets are always welcome from home. All dogs are offered a jaunt in the exercise yard adjacent to the kennel to play or lounge at their leisure, weather permitting. Structured exercise and play are available for an additional fee. For the health and safety of your pet and all the pets we care for, community boarding and play are not practiced at Anderson Acres.
Anderson Acres provides Purina Pro Plan dog food with all formulas and flavors available. Dogs are fed twice a day, unless there is another schedule you would like followed.
All animals are provided water continuously. Diets or medications brought from home are administered as instructed for a nominal fee. Prescribed medications must be in a properly labeled bottle or container which includes veterinarian info, medication info and dosage.
Cats and cage pets are cared for under constant supervision.
Cats are kept in large, tall cages with climbers throughout. All cages are cleaned daily, providing fresh food, water, litter and paper. Housing and diets provided for cage pets are handled in the same manner.
Daycare
Daycare is available during business hours for dogs, cats & cage pets.
For many people, it provides a safe haven for your pet during personal or business commitments that take you away from your pet for the day. It is also an excellent way to acclimate your pet to a board and care environment in preparation for that upcoming vacation or business trip. Anderson Acres does not practice community board or play. Quality care and concern provided by the staff at Anderson Acres is only one of the many reasons why pets are always happy coming and going.
Grooming Essentials
Allergies
Kern County is truly the land of four seasons. These seasonal changes bring allergies, not only for us, but for our four-legged friends as well. Our pet care professionals can provide topical relief for your pet with a soothing medicated bath, a cooling herbal bath or luxurious conditioning treatment for ravaged skin and coat using ingredients that are natural and safe. Products supplied by your veterinarian can be applied in accordance with their instructions insuring the best results possible. We work closely with veterinarians to resolve skin and coat issues.
External Parasites
Unlike other areas around the country, much of Kern County is prone to flea and tick problems year-round. Except in higher elevations, rarely do we receive the cold snap necessary to break the cycles of these parasites. They are a product of the environment, and our pets many times play unsuspecting host, bringing them into our yards and homes where they can pose a health threat to our family and pets. In order to rid your environment of these pests, you must eliminate them from the yard, home and pet simultaneously. We recommend the use of a licensed pest-control service for your premises. Our pet care professionals can provide the necessary relief for your pet. See your vet for prolonged care products.
Skin & Coat Care
Our pet care professionals are skilled in evaluating your dogs' skin and coat condition. Where your pet resides will determine the individual care required to maintain healthy skin and coat. This is an educational process based on breed and coat type, environmental issues and the owners' personal concerns and needs. Here at Anderson Acres we pride ourselves on our knowledge of dogs and cats and the manner in which they should be cared for. Essential to a quality finished product is the prep work. We groom all breeds with specialties in large dogs, coated breeds, toy breeds and cats.
Consultation & Evaluation
Customized Training Programs
Not all dogs are created equal nor are the difficulties you may face when training your dog. Whether puppy or adult, no matter how wonderful your dog may be, everyone benefits from training. Obedience training allows your dog to be a better pet for you and your family. Obligations at work or school, vacations and other commitments may prevent you from training your dog or fully participating in your dogs training. For this reason, our training professionals are able to customize training programs to suit your busy life. Combining the many training services available, you can be certain the training you and your dog receive will meet or exceed your expectations.
Certifications
Canine Good Citizenship (CGC) testing is available around the country and encouraged right here at home. Every year the United States Postal Service sponsors a CGC to foster responsible dog ownership within the community. Anderson Acres incorporates key exercises required in a CGC test in our training programs. Anderson Acres continues to strive in promoting the best in quality pet care to the residents of Kern County through a variety of programs and with top notch people. We want your time with your pet to be enjoyable, rewarding and educational.
Pick-up & Delivery
Boarding
Our vans are available Monday through Saturday by appointment. Additional charge for Sunday pick-up or delivery. We provide transportation from your residence to our kennel and bring your pet home upon your return. Or should you choose to, we can pick-up or deliver.
Grooming
We have carefully planned routes, serving specific neighborhoods on a particular day of the week. Designed to keep travel time down for your pet, our pet carpool is an efficient and economical way to maintain your pets care, using our gas, not yours!
Veterinarian
We are available to provide transport of well pets for check-ups or vaccinations in the Greater Bakersfield area by appointment only. For the safety and welfare of all the pets we care for, we are unable to transport sick or contagious or pets with vomiting, diarrhea or bleeding. Assistance for euthanasia and remains transport is available.
Pet Transportation & Relocation
When we were approached by a local moving company to assist in the transport and relocation of pets belonging to a family they were moving
we never thought this would become an integral part of our business. But it has, and over the years we have provided customized service and quality care to a multitude of families and their pets relocating world-wide.
The unique requirements of pet transportation and relocation make this a very specialized service.
Known as Anderson's Pet Express, we have the knowledge, skills, certifications and security clearances required to move animals around the globe in a post 9-11 world.

Janice Kiseskey-Anderson
From an early age
Janice had more than a casual interest in animals, with a home never at a loss for a furry friend, where dogs, cats, horses and chinchillas led to exhibition and breeding. When the family's' first Newfoundland arrived in 1969, Janice was hooked.
Influenced by her grandfather, a large animal veterinarian, Janice would assist him on calls to the ranches of San Fernando Valley.
Planning to follow in his footsteps, a family crisis steered Janice's future in another direction. However, Janice's involvement with animals led to a career change in 1980, when she became manager at Blue Max Kennels. She took a second job at a local grooming shop to learn more about all breed grooming. These experiences led her to relocate to Bakersfield, California in 1985, purchasing a failing kennel. Now the largest pet care facility in Kern County, her business provides boarding, grooming, training and transportation services.
Growing up with Newfs, it was only natural that Janice would add a Newf to her household when she "left the nest".
In 1978, Janice acquired her first Newfoundland from Virginia and Grant Hoag of Riptide Newfoundlands. "Stella", bred with the Hoag's guidance and tutelage, produced a beautiful litter, from which Janice kept two puppies and EBONTIDE was born.
Her knowledge and experience have also been recognized by several breed and all-breed clubs
asking her to steward or judge at shows and matches. Janice is working towards her AKC judging license.
Business owner and proud mom, Janice has 3 great kids, all active in dogs and helpers in the family business.
Kaitlyn, now a college grad, was a top contender in junior showmanship. Away from work, she continues to use her skills and talent to care for, train and exhibit her family's and other people's dogs in conformation. Devin and Daniel are in college and help with all things animal, including our new arrivals at Ebontide, Garth and Moo.
"Educate, Don't Legislate" is Janice's mantra.
"Using our schools, our media, and our legislature, AR groups have been very effective in changing the landscape for animal owners, breeders and ranchers across the country, causing a decline in participation of animal sports and an intolerance for breeders. "Education is the key to the proper care and well-being of our animals, continuation of our breeding programs and the survival of the sport of pure-bred dogs".
Janice continues, "Our youth are the very soul of the survival of purebred dogs.
We must mentor, educate and encourage our youth to participate at all levels. Without them, there is no future."
"As a club, and as breeders, it is our obligation to protect, preserve and promote our magnificent breeds."
To this end, Janice has been, and is, dedicated to the Newfoundland Dog and the Newfoundland Club of America. And for this reason, above all else, Janice serves on the NCA Breeders Education and Legislative Committees, and looks forward to an opportunity to serve on the board.

Info
From an early age, Janice had more than a casual interest in animals.
Her household was never at a loss for a furry friend. Dogs and cats were the norm. When horses and chinchillas entered the mix, Janice was introduced to the world of exhibition, breeding and competition. When her mother brought home their first Newfoundland pup, this led to Janice's involvement with pure-bred dogs.
Janice was also influenced by her grandfather, a large animal going on call with him to the ranches of the San Fernando Valley.
She hoped to one day follow in his footsteps. However, a family crisis steered Janice's future in another directionwhen she became owner the family business. Her involvement with animals led to a change in her career path in the mid-'80's. Janice moved to Blue Max Kennels, a board and care facility, also involved in the breeding and exhibiting of pure-bred dogs in Saugus, California. She began managing the kennel, and took a second job at a local grooming shop to learn more about grooming all breeds. This experience led her relocation to Bakersfield, California in 1985 to take over a failing kennel. Anderson Acres, is now the largest pet care facility in Kern County, providing boarding, grooming, dog obedience training and transportation services for dogs, cats and cage pets.
Having grown up with Newfs in the house, it was only natural for Janice to add one to her own household when she "left the nest".
In 1978, Janice acquired her first Newfoundland from Virginia and Grant Hoag of Riptide Newfoundlands. "Stella", bred with the Hoag's guidance and tutelage, produced a beautiful litter, of which Janice kept two puppies. Thus, EBONTIDE was born.
Janice's experience and knowledge gained with her pure-bred dogs and activities is what gave her the ability and confidence to become owner/operator of Anderson Acres.
And with 3 great kids, Kaitlyn, Devin & Daniel, all active in dogs and a huge help with the family business, Janice continues her journey. Kaitlyn is an active participant in the conformation ring and was a top contender in junior showmanship. She qualified for and attended Westminster and the Eukanuba Invitational multiple times, has won Best Junior at the Newfoundland Club of America National Specialty, and received honors as the Top Junior in the Newfoundland Club of America. Kaitlyn has worked as an assistant for some of the top handlers in the country. The skills Kaitlyn acquired at home and in the show ring financed her way through college, as she cared for, exhibited and trained other people's dogs. Newly graduated and employed in her chosen profession, Kaitlyn has an active role in the kennel and the show ring.
And yet, in spite of all her success, Janice is still not satisfied.
"I have a dream to create a venue for pets and their owners. A safe, healthy environment where knowledge and experience can be shared, play days and events can be held, and people can enjoy their pets in the company of friends".

The Garden Project
Bakersfield, CA - The Garden Project Bakersfield is very busy these days.
Under the guidance of Fr. Jack Estes of St. Luke's Anglican Church, The Garden Project seeks to inspire and engage our community in the production of home grown produce that is both delicious and healthy. Working with others of like mind to join in a garden co-operative, The Garden Project Bakersfield creates edible gardens, helping others through the growing process and provides support for the needy in our community by harvesting and distributing extra produce from these community gardens
Creating raised garden beds at Anderson Acres is the first step in a long-term renewal and revitalization plan for the 5 acre propert
where pets have been cared for since the early 1970's in Southeast Bakersfield. "I am honored Anderson Acres has been accepted by The Garden Project, as their latest mission. With such a monumental task looming ahead, I am excited to not only work with people that truly care about our community, but to be able give back as well"
Anderson Acres plays a vital role in our community.
In addition to pet care and transportation services provided, Anderson Acres is a community classroom site for both Kern High School District's Regional Occupational Animal Care (ROC) and the West Side Regional Occupational Programs (WSROP), and as a designated location for animal housing in an emergency, such as fire, flood or earthquake, by Kern County Fire Department Emergency Services and Kern County Animal Services. Ms. Anderson serves on the Kern County Animal Control Commission as Chairman and is a ROC Advisory Board Member for Animal Care
Completion of Anderson Acres' revitalization promises enhanced educational opportunities for our youth
more jobs, expanded services for pet and owner, including new play yards, and continued care for animals during disasters. As Janice Anderson's 30thanniversary as proprietor of Anderson Acres approaches, she is energized by the ensuing changes, and Is eager to continue working with The Garden Project, and other non-profit groups helping our community
The Garden Project is a non-profit organization that depends on the generosity of our community to keep the vision alive.
