Usually, the only people who get cheered on by NFL cheerleaders are the ones on the football field. But in 2015, hundreds of runners will get to know that same rush during the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee 4.9K Fun Run. Arizona Cardinals cheerleaders and mascot Big Red will be on the sidelines of the starting and finish line, motivating participants to keep on trucking without the aid of an actual truck.
The 4.9K (which is held 49 days before the Big Game) will begin and end at Rawhide, taking runners on a flat, mostly paved course throughout Chandler. Afterward, awards will be given to the top three male and female runners in several categories during a post-race celebration, which also includes live music and a kids' 49-yard dash.
The race is sponsored by the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee, a non-profit corporation dedicated to making the state a memorable host for the Big Game in February. Proceeds from the event will benefit local charities through the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee Legacy Grant Program.
