Mysore Style - individual practice. Mysore Style is the traditional way to learn the Ashtanga practice as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, in Mysore. The class is not "led" as a whole but rather all instruction is one-on-one within the group class setting. Students practice the Ashtanga sequence of postures to their own ability and at their own pace. The teacher assists each student individually by giving physical adjustments and verbal instructions.
Vinyasa Hour
A vinyasa-flow style of practice over the lunch hour.
Community Yoga Class
This class offers the practice of yoga to all members of the community in an economically-accessible way ($5 per class). The style of this class can vary depending on the students' needs, day of the week, and our teachers' preferences. Come and be presently surprised. Suitable for all levels.
Intro to Mysore
In this class you will learn what you need to know to begin the journey of asthanga yoga. The mysore class is the traditional method of ashtanga yoga practice. This class will help allay any fears of not knowing what you are doing when you enter the mysore room.
Led Primary Series
Primary Series is a class for more experienced students who have had some exposure to the Ashtanga practice. Students are led through the entire Primary Series. Primary Series is also known as "Yoga Chikitsa," yoga therapy, and is designed to strengthen, to purify, and to bring the neuro-muscular system into alignment.
Ashtanga Improv
A playful, intelligent exploration of postures from other series in the Ashtanga method.
Mantra Yoga/Yoga Sutras
Learn how to chant the Yoga Sutras and well as other ancient devotional chants.
Meditation
In our Sunday Meditation class we work on developing the proper intention through generating qualities such as loving kindness, compassion, joy or equanimity. We work on training our attention to remain focused on an object such as the breath in order to quiet the mind. As we learn to quiet the mind our perspective shifts and a natural feeling of peace arises. This can help us develop a good heart that has a chance to help others. All donations are given directly to the Jefferson Tibetan Society to help efforts in bringing the Dharma to our C-Ville Community. AYC is fortunate to have Tenzin Gephal, a generous and skilled teacher, coming to AYC to teach meditation from the Mahayana Buddhist perspective each Sunday from 11:15am-12:15pm
