PLAN of North Texas was formed to provide relief for families who have adult members living with severe mental illness. PLAN coordinates housing and budget services with social workers, provides psychotherapy sessions, and encourages the development of social skills through clubs such as tai chi and arts and crafts. Respite care provides a buffer for when normal caregivers are away, and vocational training helps clients reenter the workforce. Participants can practice their newly acquired vocational skills at the PLAN Recovery Resale shop, which uses proceeds from the sale of donated clothing and housewares to pay for the facility's operating expenses. All of these programs are designed to help participants gain independence and recover from their mental illnesses.
