Beautiful, well cared for and well behaved horses, nice guides ,shaded trails, beautiful scenery.Only negative : Very rocky trails which makes for a very slow ride and I felt sorry for the horses having to walk on rocks.

My family and I visited Fort Mountain Stables June 15, 2013. With all five of us being new riders, we needed more guidance on the tour. Both guides (man and women) were patient, they took out time to make sure we were paired with the right horse, we were comfortable before we left the stable and that we understood how to handle the horses. The guides were awesome, the horses were beautiful and the scenery was breathtaking. I would definitely recommend Fort Mountain Stables.

Riding at Fort Mountain Stables in the North GA mountains was a wonderful experience. Beautiful scenery, very nice and knowledgeable employees, WONDERFUL horses. It was so much fun we will defintely do it again. If you come, bring peppermints. The horses love it and it is a great treat for them after the wonderful ride.

Nothing special for such a long ride from Atlanta. Staff was great and horses well trained. Plain forest trails with some old mine entrances. Could probably find a place closer to town for the same experience. Will pay attention next time on how far away things are.

From Our Editors

In Chattahoochee National Forest, high in the north Georgia mountains, Fort Mountain Stables serves as the base camp for a 25-mile network of scenic trails at elevations between 1,600 feet and 2,000 feet. The Fort Mountain area has long attracted those daring enough to venture into the thin Georgia air to experience its dense hardwood forests, craggy cliffs, mesmerizing panoramic vistas, and eponymous 855-foot-long rock wall, thought to have been built by Native Americans. Visitors embarking on trail rides venture out into the lush Georgian foliage atop horses suited to their size and skill level while an expert guide points out notable attractions. Along the way, riders may encounter deer, turkey, or bears strolling through their natural habitat. Old talc mineshafts also populate the trails, blowing cool air out of their once-valuable depths in the summer and warm air in the winter, offering a source of warmth more pleasant than yeti breath.
