What is the best reaction you've ever gotten from a customer? I have many but this email says it all...
"Good afternoon David I hope this email finds you both well. Not sure if you remember me, I was the short East Indian girl that took a few Krav Maga classes (both locations). I wanted to thank you both for the training and offering Krav maga in the City of Edmonton. Seeing the groupon for your classes was in perfect timing with my trip to India- I had exactly a month to get in some basic training before my travels. Travelling in India is generally safe, especially if you are staying in the villages where everyone knows everyone, and doors remain unlocked for a large part of the day. However, this time, a large part of our trip consisted of travelling into the bigger cities, mainly New Delhi. The crimes in New Delhi have recently made global news with the level and extremity of the kind of violence against women. And although we did come upon some trouble one morning while a group of us tried to hail rickshaws. I’m happy to say that I did not need to use my training to defend myself or my loved ones. I did however, feel the courage of being able to ‘take on’ anything that may come my way, which gave way to a confident aura that I am sure helped ward off any predators in the bigger cities of India. I felt my basic lessons were extremely useful in New Delhi where much of the crimes against women happen occur, mainly rape. I do not mean to bring this up in a nonchalant manner, but in fact, rape in New Delhi is in the news every day, to the point that it now has become a statistic. One morning as I sat in a café in Delhi, I was overcome with emotion as it dawned on me that so many women in India do not even have the basic training to arm themselves against the men who rape them with their eyes every day, or casually fondle them on public buses, to attacking them in alleys, streets, or even their homes. At that moment, I was filled with gratitude that I had had the opportunity to learn Krav Maga and happy to have met you both. I may have mentioned this in passing, but I have a dance and theatre company here in Edmonton where we use our artistic platform to tell stories of injustice of human rights, and one of our prime focal points is women’s rights. I have future plans to stretch into India, as my students and I have performed there as well, but I want to take more practical knowledge with me; I would love to train in Krav Maga and teach women in India how to defend themselves, their sisters, daughters, and mothers. I would greatly appreciate becoming your student and becoming certified to teach. I believe, on the road to re-educating the masses, the women will need to shield themselves from the blows. After-all in India (and so many places around the world) this is a war between the uneducated and the educated for basic human rights- the right to walk down the street- day or night-and feel safe…as safe as a man walking with no moon in the sky. Thank you for reading my email. Hope to hear from you soon- it would be great pleasure to have your assistance on this journey. Kind regards, Shrina Patel
