More than 60 miles south of the Grand Canyon is Flagstaff Nordic Center—essentially the opposite of a canyon. The ski center has an average elevation of 8,200 feet, with its highest peak—dubbed Peak-A-View—at 8,700 feet. More than 40 kilometers of trails intersect the mountainous terrain and incorporate dense tree lines of Ponderosa pines and aspens. Visitors can ski in the winter, spending nights in a rental yurt or biking the trails in the warmer months on the center's fleet of mountain bikes or Yeti-powered rickshaws. The center's team pays careful attention to the environment, using technology from energy-efficient snow mobiles and solar panels.
