M2 Battlesports mixes laser tag’s technology and paintball’s outdoor fields with the mission-style game formats. The result is outdoor laser tag games that double as military simulations, in styles such as Capture the Flag, Search and Rescue, and Blackhawk Down, in which players set their guns aside to comfort a depressed bird.
The arsenal of laser guns is capable of hitting targets more than 1,200 feet away, and the built-in radio-frequency technology allows guns to communicate with each other, record hits in real time, and chronicle player stats. The weapons’ supply of ammo, clips and re-spawns can also be customized to suit the type of battle at hand. To further invigorate play, participants can incorporate props such as additional ammo clips, medic supplies, and base boxes, rather than with the old-fashioned laser-tag prop, a laser hair-removal machine on wheels.
