Barretender may appear to be a misspelling, but it's actually a fitting title for the staff members at Local Barre. Like mixologists, the instructors effortlessly blend together various elements. Except at the studio, those elements are barre's isometric toning movements with anything from yoga stretches to interval-training exercises. Even the classic open-barre class incorporates plenty of props beyond the barre itself, such as weighted yoga balls, playground balls, and stretching straps. Every fitness cocktail presented builds long, lean muscles, especially in the glutes, the thighs, and the third hand we all have for barre holding.
