Shaggy Dog Rescue Fest & 5K, Houston

Hundreds. That's how many stray and abandoned dogs have found families thanks to Houston Shaggy Dog Rescue. And the nonprofit doesn't just place pups in loving foster and adoptive homes—it also gives them veterinary care so that they're vaccinated, sterilized, micro-chipped, and placed on heartworm-prevention medication. One of the ways the organization funds these services is the Shaggy Dog Rescue Fest & 5K. The annual event features a 5K race, a 1-mile pet run, and an after party filled with live music, food trucks, vendors, and plenty of well-behaved rescue dogs on leashes.
