Yoko Japanese Kitchen, Hockley

A Houston-area offshoot of Peking Garden—a restaurant that's been serving Japanese food in Louisiana since the '80s—Yoko offers a seasoned take on sushi and hibachi.

Leading the restaurant are two chefs: one with 15 years of showmanship behind hibachi grills, another with 20 years of experience devoted to refining his own style of sushi. Despite the differences between their respective cuisines, both are known for crafting custom sauces, seen in dishes like:

• The Monkey Roll: stuffed with salmon and avocado and drizzled with mango sauce
• Shrimp and Scallop Dinner: 8 pieces of shrimp and 4 ounces of scallops sautéed in a flavorful sauce before customers' eyes
• The Volcano Roll: featuring snow crab, avocado, and cucumber and topped with baked crawfish, spicy mayo, and eel sauce
