As a child, Sam Crosby looked forward to being left alone in the house. That's because her living room was her first judgment-free dance studio, where she practiced the moves that led her to become a Zumba instructor later in life. Though she initially taught a group of eight, her student base soon grew to include 75 people, prompting Sam to expand her dance-fitness repertoire. She researched several popular routines on DVD but was consistently unimpressed with the generic music in the background. To really motivate people, she reasoned, she would have to create her own classes, set to the songs that motivated her.

Uninhibited Fitness spans a wide spectrum of musical genres with its empowering curriculum. From the heavy-metal chords that guide martial-arts punches to the hip-hop beats beneath cardio drills, the songs encourage students to shimmy off all trepidation. Nightclub lighting showcases pole spins and Zumba steps on the studio's dance floor, where Sam recreates the liberated feel of her living-room performances without relying on an ottoman to lead.
