About Burlesque, Body Confidence & Self Image Discovery
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition? We provide a safe and encouraging space in order to develop personally tailored, solo burlesque acts for performance in a professional Los Angeles burlesque show. These classes go deeper than just learning choreography - they address issues surrounding those struggling with self-confidence, body-confidence and identity disconnect. Rather than teach you a group number with matching outfits, we focus on the individual - each student experiencing their own self-discoveries and using the solo act as a way to celebrate them.
Exercise is challenging. How do you keep clients motivated and engaged? Each student is treated with individual attention - any blocks or resistance to the work are addressed and explored with genuine interest and enthusiasm from the instructor. Students are encouraged to make the work personal to themselves using music, themes and costume that inspires and motivates them each specifically.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business? I found when previously teaching classes that involved the standard 'basic burlesque moves', many students believed they 'couldnt do it' because of skill level, physical ability, and self-confidence blocks. I wanted to work with students on a deeper level, Burlesque is not about your ability to execute the perfect dance move - it is about a celebration of self.
What do you love most about your job? Seeing the transformation of each student over the 10 week period and witnessing the discoveries they make about themselves and their beliefs during class. Meeting the student who is terrified of being in front of people and adamant that they aren't sexy, confident, funny or even co-ordinated, and seeing them 10 weeks later go out, solo, in front of a crowd of strangers and mesmerise an audience with their new found confidence and charisma.
