From Our Editors
While working toward her masters degree in Oriental medicine, certified acupuncturist Valerie Brown interned at the Chengdu University hospital in the Sichuan province of China. There, she learned firsthand the role that communal acupuncture plays in China's healthcare system. Though she practiced acupuncture in Santa Fe and Atlanta, it wasn't until opening her clinic in Los Angeles that she began to incorporate the communal aspects of Chinese medicine.
In a feature on KCAL 9 News, Brown said, "the whole purpose is to make healthcare accessible and affordable." Adopting the Chinese traditions of communal rooms and a sliding scale of payment, the clinic makes it easier to receive regular treatment for chronic conditions.
