About A Chat with Notes
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
_Music and arts aren’t mere skills to be learned; they are our coping mechanisms, our truth encapsulated when words fall short, our go-to safe place, and our escape from the mundane day-to-day grind of life. At Notes, we believe we are helping students find another means to an expression of their humanness and uniqueness. Each student learns and acquires music and art skills differently.
At Notes, we recognize everyone’s unique relationship with music and arts.We strive to honor every student’s individuality. We pay attention to the relationship that the student has with their teacher. We focus on students’ individual learning styles. With skilled professionals that have extensive teaching experience, we make sure students find the right match in personality and teaching style. We are open to switching and trying new matches. It’s important to us that our students like their teachers and that they like how they are learning._
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
Three music lovers - a DJ pianist, an entrepreneurial vocalist, and a folk-guitarist dad - got together to dream up a place where quality music lessons can be available to all. We offer customized music and art lessons that are affordable, right on the edge of Lower East Side and Chinatown. Together, we strive to create a place where teachers meet all students where they're at, catering to their unique goals and providing them the individualized attention they need to express their creativity - all at an affordable price.
What do you love most about your job?
No one needs music or arts; except everyone does. We love aiding the holistic development and fulfillment of an individual through music and arts. Every individual has a need for the ability to express their creativity. The expression of creativity is pivotal in achieving one’s full potential. Not everyone will be a virtuoso or a professional painter; but we note (pun intended) each person’s unique journey towards self-actualization and we seek to partner with our students in their adventure of learning and exploring, helping them become the best versions of themselves.
What is the best reaction you've ever gotten from a customer?
It is most fulfilling when we witness our students have an ah-ha moment for themselves, or finally nail the song they’ve been working on for weeks. One voice student stated that the vocal lessons helped her find her voice; literally and metaphorically. That was an amazing privilege.
