Home to one of the most elegant, “unfinished” dining rooms in the city, Jadis in the Lower East Side recreates the rustic country wine bar in France with the familiar brick walls, communal wood tables, leather sofas and exposed pipes swaddled in rope. The ceiling, made up of a series of arched brick vaults, is the real charmer, while wine is indeed the focus of the menu, with a heavily French list drawn from the Loire Valley, Languedoc and Burgundy. All are accompanied by a similarly-themed, complementary bite-sized menu of country paté, venison terrine, quiche and escargots. Come Monday night to receive a 30 percent discount on all wine over $30 per bottle; otherwise the budget-minded will have to survive on the happy hour Proseccos.
