Garden State Beer Company's Dr. Jason Stairs isn't just a brewer, he's also a chemist. With a PhD in chemistry from Penn State, Dr. Stairs went to Germany for technical research—but also gained an appreciation for small, local breweries. When he came back to the US, he teamed up with a Brian Krenzien, a retired military officer, and Bryan Saul, a computer engineer, to combine their knowledge in science and business with their passion for a precise, well-balanced beer.

Here's a quick look at a few of Garden State Beer Company's brews you might find on tap:

• Steel Pier Blonde: an easy-drinking and refreshing American-style beer (4.5% ABV)

• Leeds Point Wicked Porter : dark ale full of coffee and chocolate. (6.5% ABV) and/or Blue Jersey: An extremely drinkable American wheat with a hint of blueberry. (5.2% ABV)

• Nucky's Empirial IPA: bigger and bitterer than a standard IPA, this beer is full of citrus and pine note hops (9% ABV)
