At his station at Shine in the Market, Juan Cardenas dispenses Paul Mitchell products onto strands, creating delicate frames for faces. Within the salon, where floor-to-ceiling windows admit cascades of sunshine, the stylist lathers shampoo in sudsy hillocks to chase away the dirt and oil that can polute tresses or implicate one in mud-pie heists. After finishing cuts, Juan styles locks and then blows out waves to leave high-gloss sweeps of hair coiled happily around shoulders. Cream-based Paul Mitchell color brings new layers in coiffure to life by clinging to crowns in sets of strategically placed highlights and lowlights. The grass-green and cerulean walls in the reception area offset fresh purple, orange, and fuchsia blossoms peeking from vases in bright floral bouffants and intricate french braids.
