What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Manhattan Mandarin runs the After School Mandarin programs at the 92nd Street Y, Allen-Stevenson, Buckley, Chapin, PS 6, PS 87, PS 180, St. Bernard's, St Luke's and Trinity Schools. Our team is made up of both native and non-native tutors.
Do you provide any materials? What should your students expect to bring?
Manhattan Mandarin has designed an effective curriculum and various programs for students of all ages and skill levels. We provide our textbook and audio files for students and we also have access to other related learning materials.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
Manhattan Mandarin was founded in 2013 by Jamie Keyte. After studying and working in China for nearly four years, Jamie returned home to help his fellow New Yorkers reach their goal of becoming fluent in Mandarin.
What do you love most about your job?
"Our brain is like a muscle. In order to strengthen it, we need to exercise it" (Cowley). Science shows that learning a second language has lasting cognitive benefits for people of all ages. We are excited to not only help students develop Mandarin skills, but also to improve overall brain function.
