It was a beautiful setting, but it was very expensive and the customer service did not reflect the prices charged, in my opinion.
The customer service at the front desk was far below what I would expect for an establishment that charges the prices they charge. She helped only to the extent that any front desk attendant would in any run of the mill chain hotel. We arrived early and was told there were no rooms available yet (less than an hour before check in), which I had no problem with...we were early. But she offered no suggestions as to what we might do or where we might go while we waited. When asked, she told us someplace to go, but offered no guidance or even the pamphlet that was sitting on the desk right beside her.
During our stay, there was no greeting as we passed back and forth in front of the desk.
We were given no information on how the dining room worked. We didn't know if we needed reservations, so it was just awkward as we entered the dining area. The hostess asked us if we had reservations when we entered for dinner, I said "No, do we need them?" She said, "No." So why ask? It just made for a bit of an uncomfortable exchange. We thought the food was ok, but the menu was very limited, and overpriced. The server seemed almost snooty.
The complimentary continental breakfast was even worse. We had been given no information on how that worked either, so it was really awkward going into the restaurant and having to ask where the complimentary breakfast was served. We were seated and given a full menu, but had already stated we wanted only the complimentary breakfast. We got the feeling that we were being looked at as being cheapskates, which only exacerbated the awkwardness. Then the "variety of pastries" was really only a choice of one. I chose something that I didn't care for, so left it on my plate. The server didn't inquire at all as to why it wasn't eaten, or would I like something else. And of course, a tip was expected. I much prefer the self-serve buffet type complimentary breakfast, even in a place that tries to be upscale and ritzy.
And then we checked out. The front desk person, who was the same person as the check-in person, I believe, didn't even bother to get out of her seat, or show any interest on how our stay really was.
I was consoled by the fact that we did get a groupon rate, but would never go back there and pay the full rate they charge. I don't think I would ever be tempted to go back at a groupon rate either though.
