What You'll Get
A guided tour is the safest way to admire wildlife up close, narrowly beating playing Jumanji and wedding a bengal tiger. Immerse yourself in nature's bounty with today's Groupon to Alaska's Finest Tours & Cruises. Choose from the following options:
• For $57, you get a gold-panning adventure for two children (a $96 value including admission fee).
• For $73, you get a gold-panning adventure for two adults (a $128 value including admission fee).
• For $99, you get an Alaska Wildlife and Turnagain Arm bus tour for two people (a $208 value including admission fee).
Alaska's Finest Tours & Cruises whisks explorers off to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center for adventures in the heart of rich foliage, roaming wildlife, and breathtaking panoramas. Prospective prospectors can time-travel back to the late 1800s to study the traditional gold miner’s swirl-and-sift technique, which transforms a pan of floating minerals into a pint-sized supply of precious gold. At the end of the excursion, modern miners are given a vial to fill with unearthed gold, leaving adventurers with both a treasured keepsake and an unexpected gratuity for a helpful bellhop.
The three-hour Turnagain Arm wildlife bus tour departs four times daily and winds around mountains, through valleys, and past icy rivers. During the tour, landscape- and animal-photo opportunities abound, including glimpses of bears, coyotes, and dahl sheep. Special bonus points are awarded to sharp-eyed visitors who peep an elusive soaring eagle or one of Cook Inlet's 350 tap-dancing beluga whales. Tours are soundtracked by the voices of knowledgeable tour guides, who commonly regale adventurers with tales from such local historical events as the gold rush and the movement to restore moose voting rights.
Visitors embark on their journey by rallying at the Wildlife Center or scheduling the complimentary shuttle service that runs from a number of major local hotels. Bag lunches, assorted beverages, and snacks can be purchased at the Center, with snacks also available on board the bus for hungry tour-goers whose pockets only contain inedible coinage, lint, and filet mignons.
