Hand-drawn narratives have been part of the human experience ever since cavemen first covered cave walls with primitive figures hunting buffalo and pulling footballs away from the large-headed figures trying to kick them. Amble among the art form's latest advances with today’s Groupon: for $10, you get admission to the Albuquerque Comic Expo (a $20 value) on Sunday, June 26. Children 10 and under are admitted free with a paid adult ticket, but do require a wristband.
The inaugural Albuquerque Comic Expo gathers gaggles of comics, cartoons, and anime fans under one rowdy roof and atop 106,000 square feet of comics, memorabilia, and collectibles. Sunday’s festivities boast an impressive lineup of panels, including “Create Your Own Comic,” a Robotech collectors' panel, and "How to Irradiate a Spider Using Common Household Appliances." Celebrities from page, screen, and MMA will be there to answer questions, sign autographs (additional fee may apply), and pick gum out of guests’ hair all day, and a retro gaming area beckons active thumbs. June 26 is also Kids Day, and treats kids to a free magic show, as well as a chance to meet Spider-Man and other superheroes.
Albuquerque Comic Expo
Spread out over the 106,000 square feet of Albuquerque Convention Center, the Albuquerque Comic Expo assembles a motley crew of comic-book artists, immersive activities, and celebrity guests. The three-day event, running June 21–23, brings imaginary worlds to life as guests meet the artists and actors behind their favorite comics and films. A crammed schedule of events includes costume contests, exhibitions, Q&As with panels of celebrities, and rowdy games of Pin the Tail on the Batman.
