What You'll Get
|_Jump to: Reviews||Alice’s Competition_|
If Wonderland were stuffed with syrup-soaked waffles and pancakes instead of crazed caterpillars, Alice would have spent the rest of her adventures checking her blood sugar levels. The iconic New York tea room, Alice’s Tea Cup, is a breakfast-lover’s fantasy world. Although Alice’s is most famous for its made-to-order teas (check out this week’s side deal), this Groupon gets you Alice’s Bigger Breakfast: a banquet fit for a king on a three-tiered stand. You get a scone, eggs any style with vegetables or bacon, and mixed berries with vanilla yogurt (the historically accurate breakfast Alice ate the morning before she fell down a rabbit-hole). Scone flavors change daily, and anything from lemon-ginger to orange currant could appear through the looking-glass.
The bigger breakfast is served from 8 a.m.–11:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. Use this Groupon at any of the storybook-themed eatery’s three locations, aptly titled Chapters I, II, and III (Chapter II puts an adult twist on the childhood fantasyland by serving alcohol-infused concoctions). With spellbinding scones, tantalizing teas, and a menu written entirely in logical syllogisms, Alice’s is a magical slice of the delicious Big Apple. Turquoise walls trimmed in pink and countless details from Alice’s wonderland conjure up a fairytale world; expect to see the Mad Hatter running to catch the MTA, the caterpillar blowing Black and Mild smoke letters, or Lewis Carroll doing a crossword puzzle.
The fairytale tea room has earned four stars on both Citysearch and Yelp: > * I have sooo enjoyed eating at Alice’s, the decor is entertaining; the music is always “on” in the background. It is fun watching the special food come out on the tall trays. Service can be casual when busy. but it gives us the time to enjoy. Staff is incredibly welcoming and warm. – EthelB, Citysearch > * Wow, I think i’ve died and gone to heaven! This is perhaps the cutest tea place i’ve EVER been to. It’s just so incredibly inviting, warm, and cozy. I loved it so much I went twice in three days. – Rahul S., Yelp > * Living in New York, it’s hard to make the choice to revisit a restaurant… Today was my second visit to Alice’s and I would go back again and again and again. That’s how amazing this place is. – lillie m., Yelp
Alice’s Tea Cup has spawned legions of book-inspired restaurant imitators, but the competition has failed to capture the whimsy and magic of Lewis Carroll’s wonderland.
- Angela’s Ashes Eatery: Choose from a selection of bread, tea, and bread soaked in tea. Marvel at the servers’ commitment to playing destitute alcoholics.
- The Jungle Delicatessen: Ignores all regulations established by the Meat Inspection Act of 1906. Management frequently hires due to common instances of workers being rendered into lard and sold.
- Cormac McCarthy’s The Road Restaurant: Compete with normal humans, cannibals, and rats for anything edible at this post-apocalyptic-themed diner. Simulates a sun-less world by setting air conditioning to 38-degrees below zero.
