About Aquarium of the Bay
Located just steps away from San Francisco Bay, Aquarium of the Bay is home to over 20,000 animals that are found in the Bay and along the California coast. The 50,000-square-foot Aquarium features four main exhibit areas devoted, each devoted to the diverse marine life and ecosystems of the San Francisco Bay Area. These include Discover the Bay, where visitors are introduced to eight animal habitats and over a thousand species local to the Bay Area; Under the Bay, guest experience what it is like under the bay as they walk through two large tunnels featuring an array of jellies, giant seabass, swirling schools of anchovies, and multiple species of sharks, including the Bay’s largest predator – the sevengill shark; Touch the Bay, whose touchpools offer a tactile interaction with sharks, rays, skates, sea stars, and Otters: Watershed Ambassadors, where playful river otters play, swim, romp, and roll.
In addition to the permanent exhibits, the Aquarium features a packed schedule of free-with-admission daily programs, which include lectures, feedings, and up-close animal encounters. Chat with a climate change naturalist, watch a bat ray feeding, witness a river otter training, or upgrade your ticket to go on a Behind-the-Scenes tour. With so much to check out, guests can customize their action packed day at the Aquarium however they would like.
