Similar to tickling a bear without losing an arm, the art of breathing underwater requires years of practice and dedication. Introduce your lungs to aqueous awareness with today’s Groupon: for $22, you get the introductory scuba diving lesson at Aquatic Sports (a $50 value).
The 90-minute Try Scuba lesson encourages underwater neophytes to take land lungs on an aqueous adventure. Experienced instructors lead goggle-eyed students through an introductory lesson covering proper techniques such as breathing and adjusting the equipment. Lessons are held in Aquatic Sports' 70,000-gallon indoor training pool, with scuba equipment supplied so that students don't have to rely on their backup gills. Throughout the session, feel free to ask questions regarding the power of shark-whispering, or gain information about future Aquatic Sports scuba opportunities, such as the passport diver program. The introductory scuba lesson is the most efficient way to learn aquatic dos and don'ts essential for mortal survival below sea level, including the most effective pressure points for taking down barracuda bandits that lurk around sunken ships. Call at least two weeks in advance to reserve your spot in class.
All participants must sign a waiver and medical questionnaire. A parent or legal guardian must accompany divers ages 10–16. Students must be in good health and complete a 200-yard swim to participate in class.

The experienced instructors at Aquatic Sports make it clear that they aren't in the business of simply doling out scuba certifications—they want to turn amateur divers into lifetime scuba explorers with safe, sensible training. Their teachers lead students in a heated pool through comprehensive refresher courses and basic scuba-certification courses that set divers on the path to independent diving. Alternatively, in the more advanced three- or four-week open-water-certification course, tank-breathers undergo classroom instruction for skills review and lessons in open-water conditions, as well as pool instruction for topics such as scuba emergencies and safety procedures.
Once they're ready to safely plumb the ocean depths, scuba-course grads can join scuba trips, with Aquatic Sports' staff handling all booking and arrangements. Before heading out to dive the Columbia River or the neighbor's above-ground pool, you can gear up at the in-house scuba shop, stocked with brand new diving and underwater photography equipment.
