The nuclear family, unlike the family powered by teamwork, spends its free time spinning around the same giant reactor. Reenergize your amusement with today's Groupon: for $7, you get one ticket to Saturday Family Fun Night (a $10 value), including unlimited batting cages, as well as kickball, baseball, and softball games from 5 to 10 p.m., three batting-cage tokens (a $6 value), a hot dog (a $2.50 value) or a slice of pizza (a $3.50 value), and a large soda (a $2.50 value) at Arena Softball (up to a $22 total value) in Roseville. Because batting cages are free on Family Fun Night, you can redeem everything provided by this Groupon over two separate visits.

Arena Softball pays homage to its namesake game with two 10,000-square-foot fields. Bringing the classic game of softball indoors and surrounding the field with a tight net keeps the ball in play for fast-action games and removes the pesky dandelions that are notorious for distracting outfielders with allergens and beauty. Without the downers of foul zones, every time the ball and bat make contact is playtime. Other rule adjustments increase the pace and fervor of the hit and run game: teams can score when fielding, there are never any rain delays, and the third strike doesn't exist any more. Kickball and baseball games also appear on the technologically advanced diamonds, which offer easy-to-navigate vinyl running surfaces.

The indoor batting cages have six stations and 12 machines that can pitch out baseballs or slow- or fast-pitch softballs. Each cage is built in an "open" style, with only 10 feet of side netting and 17-foot ceilings. Batters can watch the trajectory of their hit balls without having to break through glass ceilings or engage net walls. Built-in speed and placement variations assure that come game time, heavy hitters don't expect uniform pitches from uniform-wearing automatons. After batting and fielding, replenish bat holders and base runners with a large soda and a slice of pizza or a hot dog.

Though Arena Softball has yet to receive many reviews, they have nearly 1,000 Facebook fans.

Arena Softball

Arena Softball's advanced pitching machines pitch balls at players preparing for a big game. The Arena also hosts birthday-party kickball games regulated by experienced umpires, and after the game, players can feast on snacks or home-run softballs. Arena Softball also hosts a variety of indoor leagues.
