  • Newbury Street: Starting at Vose Galleries 238 Newbury Street Boston at 10:30 a.m., you’ll continue to around seven other stops in the historic shopping district. Upcoming dates include January 21, February 21, March 21, and April 18.
  • South End: On the south end of Washington Street lies a former manufacturing district that once produced pianos, canned goods, and other staples of 19th-century life. Today, the large buildings hold many galleries, art studios, and other creative businesses. Tours start at 11 a.m. at Carroll and Sons Gallery at 450 Harrison Avenue on January 31, February 28, March 28, and April 11.

MFA-holding guides lead both tours, sparking discussions of art genres, styles, and subject matter—both in general and in Boston today—while examining paintings, photography, and sculpture. Groups also talk with art dealers for an inside look at the fine-art industry.

Additional tour dates may be added depending on interest. Tickets are regularly $25 for kids ages 12–17 and free for younger children when accompanied by a paying adult.

Art Tours Boston

The walking expeditions of Art Tours Boston shepherd art-lovers and curious newcomers to galleries along Newbury Street or in the buzzing former mill buildings of the South End. Their leaders are professional artists, curators, and professors, and they're armed with enough knowledge that these local tours double as a survey of the vast arena of traditional, modern and contemporary art. As they travel from spot to spot perfecting their thoughtful head tilt, tour guests find opportunities to meet artists, discuss paintings, photography, and sculpture, and chat with art dealers.
